Why
Why gamers use a VPN
ISPs sometimes slow or shape gaming and download traffic once they recognise it. An encrypted tunnel makes that traffic look like a VPN session, which can stop casual throttling on the wire.
Public Wi-Fi at LAN events, hotels, and campuses is another reason — you do not want account logins sitting on a shared network in the clear. A VPN encrypts the path before it leaves your device.
DDoS protection is the other half: attacks aimed at your home address hit the VPN server instead.
- Less ISP shaping
- Safer on public Wi-Fi
- Home IP stays hidden
